About Yu Ming Charter

Yu Ming Charter School is a public charter school located in Oakland, California. Founded in 2007, Yu Ming is a tuition-free, Mandarin immersion school that serves students in grades K-8. The school is dedicated to providing a rigorous academic program and a strong foundation in Mandarin language and culture.
Yu Ming offers a rigorous academic program that is based on the Common Core State Standards and the California State Standards. The school also has a strong focus on developing students’ language skills in Mandarin. All students are required to take Mandarin classes, and classes are taught in both English and Mandarin.
In addition to the academic program, Yu Ming also offers a variety of extracurricular activities. These activities include martial arts, Chinese calligraphy, and traditional music. The school also offers a variety of cultural activities, such as Chinese New Year celebrations and field trips to Chinese cultural sites.
Yu Ming Charter School has received numerous awards and recognition for its commitment to excellence in education. The school has been named a California Distinguished School and has been recognized by the U.S. Department of Education for its commitment to language acquisition and cultural understanding.
