About Monarch

Monarch butterflies are one of the most well-known species of butterflies in the world. Native to North America, these beautiful creatures are recognizable by their bright orange and black wings. Monarchs are known for their incredible migratory abilities, as they travel thousands of miles from Canada to Mexico each year.
Monarchs feed primarily on nectar from flowers, but they also feed on other plants and sap. They lay their eggs on milkweed plants, which are the only plants that their caterpillars can eat. The caterpillars feed on the leaves of the milkweed plant until they become butterflies.
Monarchs are a keystone species, meaning they are vital to their ecosystems. They help pollinate plants and provide food for other animals. Unfortunately, their populations have been in decline due to habitat loss and the use of pesticides. Conservation efforts have been put in place to protect and restore their habitats, but more work needs to be done to ensure the survival of this species.
