About Henry Hank Oyama
Henry Hank Oyama was a Japanese-American soldier who served in the United States Army during World War II. He was born in Hawaii in 1921 and was the son of Japanese immigrants. Oyama enlisted in the Army in 1942 and was assigned to the 442nd Regimental Combat Team. During his service, he took part in the Italian Campaign and was wounded twice in action. Despite his injuries, Oyama continued to fight and was eventually awarded the Purple Heart and a Bronze Star. After the war, Oyama returned to Hawaii and worked as a farmer. He was also active in the Japanese-American community and served as a leader in the Hawaii chapter of the Japanese American Citizens League. Oyama was a passionate advocate for civil rights and worked to ensure that Japanese-Americans were treated fairly and with respect. Henry Hank Oyama was a brave soldier and a dedicated advocate for justice. He was an inspiration to many and a symbol of the courage and perseverance of Japanese-Americans.
